Free Classified Sites in India: Which Ones Still Bring Enquiries
By Pankaj Singh, founder of Doon Digital. Published September 27, 2026.
There are two completely different reasons people post on free classified sites, and almost every article about them only serves one. The first reason is links: an SEO wants a backlink and a classified listing is a free place to put one. The second reason is leads: a business owner wants somebody to call. Those two goals point at different sites, different listings and different amounts of effort, and confusing them is why most people get nothing from either.
This article is about the second one. We did the first one too, on our own site, and we will tell you exactly what it returned, because it is not what the lists promise. The full list of 150 verified classified sites is at the end.
The two jobs a classified listing can do
As a link, a classified listing is close to worthless and you should assume that going in. These sites let anyone post anything, which means search engines have discounted them heavily. Nobody reviewed your business before your listing went live. A link that took thirty seconds to create is priced accordingly.
As a citation, the same listing is worth considerably more, and this is the part nobody explains properly. A citation is a mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website. Google uses the consistency of those mentions across the web as one of the strongest inputs into local ranking, which is what decides whether you appear in the map results when somebody nearby searches for what you sell. Classified and business listing sites are one of the easiest ways to build citations, and unlike links, volume genuinely helps here.
As an actual advertisement, a classified listing on the right platform can produce an enquiry directly. This is the original purpose and it still works on a small number of sites, all of which have real buyers on them.
So the category is not dead. It is just sold for the wrong reason. You are not buying link equity. You are buying local ranking signal and, on a handful of sites, actual customers.
What we posted, and what came back
Fourteen classified submissions in one week
In late August 2026 we submitted our own business to 14 classified sites as part of a wider 293-link programme. We tracked Search Console and site analytics daily for three weeks afterwards.
For rankings, nothing. No keyword we target moved position. Our Authority Score was 6 before and 6 after.
For referral traffic, the number is worth quoting precisely. In the five days after the programme finished, referral traffic across the entire website was 3 sessions. Not 3 from classifieds. Three from every referring site combined, including the platforms far stronger than any classified page. If you post to classified sites expecting visitors, that is the honest scale of it.
The /389/posts/1/1/ problem
Here is the more interesting finding. Of the 14 submissions, 12 landed on domains sharing an identical URL structure: /389/posts/1/1/ followed by a number and .html. Twelve different domain names. One database underneath.
You can verify this yourself in about a minute. Open pclassified.com, foldads.com, freeadshome.com, ursads.com, nextfreeads.com and globalclassified.net side by side. Same layout, same posting form, same URL shape, some of them literally sharing the same site ID number in the path.
Our reporting tool counted those as 12 referring domains, which looks like progress. They are one source with twelve names, and the pattern is trivially detectable. Anything you can spot by glancing at six address bars, a search engine crawling the whole web spots faster.
What this means for you
If your goal is citations, twelve listings from one network is not twelve citations. It is closer to one, and building it created a footprint you would rather not have. Two or three genuine Indian platforms beat all twelve.

The Indian platforms that actually work
Justdial, IndiaMART and Sulekha
These three are where Indian buyers actually go, and they behave differently from each other.
Justdial is the closest thing to a genuine enquiry channel. People search it directly for local services, and the leads are real, though the platform will also sell your enquiry to your competitors and call you persistently to upgrade. Worth doing. Go in expecting the sales calls.
IndiaMART is a B2B marketplace. If you sell to other businesses, especially anything product-shaped, it produces genuine buyer enquiries. If you are a local consumer service, it will mostly produce noise.
Sulekha sits between the two, with reasonable volume for service businesses and less aggressive monetisation than Justdial.
All three are worth a properly completed listing. None of them is worth a thin one.
Google Business Profile beats every one of them
If you only do one thing from this entire article, do this instead of any of it.
For a local business, Google Business Profile is worth more than every classified site combined, because it is the thing that puts you in the map results that appear above the normal search results. It is free, it takes an afternoon to set up properly, and most businesses in Dehradun leave it half-finished.
We have a small piece of evidence for how well it works when the details are right. After our office moved, one of the queries this site now ranks at position 1 for is internet marketing service near badowala, dehradun with phone number. Tiny volume, but it shows the mechanism: get the location details right and hyperlocal searches find you.
Our Google Business Profile service covers the full setup if you want help, but the setup itself is not hard and you can do it yourself in an afternoon.
The mistake that costs you the map pack
This is the one that matters more than which sites you pick, and we made it ourselves this year, so the example is our own.
In August 2026 our office moved to Badowala. Overnight, every one of our 42 existing listings became wrong. Every classified site, every directory, every profile that carried our old address was now contradicting our website.
Inconsistent name, address and phone data does not just fail to help. It actively suppresses local ranking, because Google uses the contradiction to discount the whole set. A single listing with an old address undermines the correct ones.
We had to go back and correct them, and that mattered considerably more than adding new ones. At the time of writing we still have listings out there carrying the old address, including our own Justdial entry.
So before you post anywhere: decide the exact format of your name, address and phone number, write it down, and use that identical string every single time. Not "Suite 4" on one and "Ste. 4" on another. Identical.
How to write a listing that converts
Most classified listings are written as if a crawler will read them. A person reads them, and they decide in about four seconds.
Write the headline for the search, not for yourself. "Doon Digital Pvt Ltd" tells a browsing buyer nothing. "SEO and Google Ads for Dehradun businesses, from Rs 10,000/month" tells them what you do, where, and whether they can afford you.
Put the price or a range in. Listings without prices get skipped. A range filters out people who were never going to buy, which saves you the call.
One clear action. A phone number people can tap. Not a phone number, an email, a WhatsApp link, a website and a contact form, which is what most listings do and it converts worse than any one of them alone.
Say where you are. "Dehradun" in the body, not just in a dropdown category. People search within the platform too.
Add photos if the platform allows it. Real ones of your premises, your team or your work. Listings with photographs get materially more clicks than listings without, on every platform we have used.
Do not spin it. Posting the same text across forty sites with the words shuffled is obvious to a reader and it is obvious to Google. Write one good listing and use it consistently, which also happens to be what citation consistency requires.
The list, and how to use it
Our classified submission sites list carries 150 sites, weighted towards Indian platforms, every URL opened and confirmed loading. Dead and parked domains were removed rather than copied forward, and the Moz figures come from our own bulk checks rather than the fabricated numbers that circulate with these lists.
Use it in this order:
- Google Business Profile first. Complete it properly. Nothing else on this page comes close.
- Justdial, IndiaMART and Sulekha, one full listing each, identical business details.
- Ten to fifteen more from the list, checking as you go that they are not all the same network.
- Stop.
Working down all 150 will not help you. Twelve listings from one database did nothing for us except create a pattern, and the effort would have been better spent on a single properly finished Google Business Profile.
If you want the thing that does move rankings rather than local visibility, that is off-page SEO, and it is slower and harder than this. We also wrote up what social bookmarking and profile creation sites returned in the same programme, and the category-by-category verdict on all 26 lists we publish.
FAQ
Do free classified sites still work in India in 2026? For links, barely. For citations that support local map ranking, yes, and volume genuinely helps there. For actual enquiries, only on a handful of real platforms: Justdial, IndiaMART and Sulekha. Our own 14 submissions produced no ranking change, and site-wide referral traffic in the following five days was 3 sessions.
Which is the best free classified site in India? Justdial for local consumer services, IndiaMART if you sell to businesses. But Google Business Profile beats all of them for a local business, is free, and most people leave it half-finished.
How many classified sites should I submit to? Google Business Profile, then Justdial, IndiaMART and Sulekha, then ten to fifteen more, checking they are not all one network. Beyond that the return is zero.
Can classified submissions hurt my rankings? Two ways. Dozens of listings on domains sharing one platform read as a single manipulated source, not many. And a listing carrying an old or inconsistent address actively suppresses local ranking, because Google uses the contradiction to discount the whole set.
What is the difference between a classified site and a business listing site? A classified site is built around individual ads that expire. A business listing or directory site is built around a permanent profile of your business. For local SEO the listing sites matter more, because the citation persists.
Do I need to pay for premium listings? Rarely. Paid tiers mostly buy placement within the platform, not SEO value. If a platform genuinely sends you enquiries, paying for visibility there is an advertising decision and should be judged on cost per enquiry, not on links.
