What is App Development?

App development is designing, building and publishing software that people install on a phone, tablet or computer. Doon Digital builds apps for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows from Dehradun, and has shipped three of its own: Strata, a native Swift disk tool for the Mac; Maintainly, a home maintenance app on the App Store; and Kapy Notes, a Flutter notes app on the App Store, Google Play, Mac and Windows. We handle the design, the code, the store listings, signing and the updates after launch.

You have an idea for an app, or a process that needs one, but the road from idea to something people can download is full of decisions you should not have to make blind: which platform first, native or cross-platform, how payments work, and what Apple and Google will reject. Plenty of agencies can show you mockups. Far fewer can show you an app in the store.

Strata maps a whole Mac drive in seconds, shows every folder at its real size, and removes what you choose in a way you can undo. Six tools share one window: the map, search, large files, an uninstaller, live readouts and undo.

What went into it

  • A squarified treemap of any drive or folder. Results stream in as they arrive, so the map is readable before the scan ends, and a full boot volume takes under a minute on most Macs.
  • Sizes are what files actually occupy on disk, not the length they claim, so the totals agree with Finder on APFS, where clones, sparse files and compression make those two numbers differ constantly.
  • Hard links are counted once, so Time Machine snapshots do not inflate the total.
  • The uninstaller searches eighteen Library locations for an app's leftovers, grades every match, and checks each one against every other installed app first, so removing Word never offers up Excel's preferences.
  • Every removal goes to the Trash, so Finder can put it back even if Strata is never opened again.

What went into it

  • A starter plan built during a two-minute setup from the home's type, location and equipment, with a Maintenance Score that climbs as tasks get done.
  • Offline-first: tasks are added and completed on the device and sync when the connection comes back.
  • A shareable PDF Home Report with the score, equipment and warranty details, recorded spending and a dated maintenance history.
  • Guest-first onboarding, so nobody needs an account to start using it.
  • Climate and country aware: Australian postcodes resolve to the right climate, so Brisbane is never asked to winterise, and autumn tasks arrive in March.

What went into it

  • Inline calculations with variables, units, percentages and currency conversion, answered in a rail beside the lines that ask.
  • Local by default. Sync is optional and end-to-end encrypted with a passphrase only the user knows.
  • Voice notes transcribed and summarised on the device with no account and nothing leaving it, or in the cloud on devices that cannot do it themselves.
  • Shared notes, with collaborators shown by name and picture rather than by email address.
  • Numbers follow the device's region, so a device set to India counts in lakh and crore rather than millions.

What We Offer

Doon Digital builds apps the way we would want to use them: small, fast, honest about what they do, and finished properly, down to the signing certificate and the store listing. We work from Dehradun with businesses and founders who need an app for iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows, whether that is a product for customers or a tool for their own team. We choose the approach to fit the product rather than the other way round. When an app has to feel completely at home on one platform, we build it natively, which is how Strata runs as a 14 MB Swift app on the Mac. When the same product needs to reach several platforms at once, we use Flutter, which is how Kapy Notes ships on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows. Launch is not the finish line. App stores review every release, operating systems change every year, and real users find the edge cases no test plan did. Maintainly shipped version 1.0 in June 2026 and two feature releases by July, and Kapy Notes published 22 desktop releases in its first 11 days. We plan for that pace from the start.
