What blog submission is and is not
Submitting your blog's URL to a directory is not the same as publishing a post on someone else's blog. The first is a listing; the second is guest posting, and it is worth a great deal more. Lists routinely conflate them.
Blog directories were how people found blogs before RSS readers, then social feeds, then search took the job. Technorati and BlogCatalog were the giants of that era and both are gone. What remains is thinner and largely aggregators.
Getting a blog discovered without directories
- Fix the fundamentals first. A blog with no internal linking and no sitemap will not be found regardless of where you list it.
- Submit to the aggregators in your niche that people actually read, rather than to every general directory that will take you.
- Publish where readers already are: Medium, Substack, Dev.to and Hashnode, with canonical tags pointing back at your originals.
- Answer questions on Reddit and Quora and link to the post that goes deeper. This produces more blog readers than every directory here combined.
- Email people you cite. Telling someone you referenced their work is the least used and most effective discovery tactic there is.
